Brand refresh / Links

8 left

1–3 file

Four keys do almost everything.

A file card for hero_v3.png, an image from figma.com, suggested for “Brand refresh / Links”, with a Return key hint.

Suggestions

It learns where things go.

Sorting Room remembers the website a file came from and the words in its name. Next time it suggests the project, and Return files it there.

Two rows of the grid view with large previews of downloads: photos, PDFs, a movie, an audio file and a zip.

Groups

Related files stay together.

A zip and its folder, logo.svg and logo.png, final_v1 and final_v2, a camera burst, or a whole download session become one card, filed in one go. U deals them out again.

Name-clash sheet: “logo_lockup_colour.png is already in Brand refresh / Links. The two files are different. Sorting Room never renames files, so choose what happens.” Options: Skip for now, Put in _conflicts, Replace existing.

Safety

Never renames a single file.

Links in After Effects and Illustrator keep working. When names clash, you choose: Skip, Replace, or Put in _conflicts.

  • No date folders
  • Duplicates spotted by content
  • Undo everything
  • Nothing deleted unless it’s safe elsewhere

Offload

Finished projects, off your Mac.

Offload screen: Archive SSD selected over Studio Backup, three projects with their sizes, and the option to remove originals after verifying or move them to the Trash.

The small things.

No accounts. No tracking. Your files never leave your Mac.

Questions

Does Sorting Room rename my files?

No, never. If a file with the same name is already in the folder, you choose: Skip, Replace (the old copy goes to the Trash), or Put in _conflicts. Links in After Effects, Illustrator and other apps keep pointing at the same names.

Can I undo?

Yes. Command Z undoes any action during your session, including Trash, Replace, Skip and Offload. Undo history ends when you quit the app.

Is offloading safe?

Each file is copied, checksum-verified (SHA-256) on the drive, and only then removed from your Mac. If you prefer, originals can go to the Trash instead. Undo Offload brings the project back.

Does it sort automatically in the background?

No. It suggests, and you decide with a keystroke, so nothing moves that you didn't see. The menu bar icon tells you when new files arrive.

Does it use the internet or collect data?

No. There are no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking. Your file names, move history and learned suggestions stay on your Mac. See the privacy policy.

What do I need?

A Mac running macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later.
